Flea Trap – What is a Flea Trap?

A flea trap is a device constructed to attract and kill fleas. There are several commercial and do-it-yourself traps on the internet, so you have the choice of buying one from a number of suppliers or making one at home!

Flea Trap – Are They Complicated to Use?

The design of do it yourself flea traps are very straight forward, although they would need to be built with safety in mind. They are a simple two-part idea – attract the fleas to a warm and bright area and trap them in soapy water. The water must be soapy, as this helps the fleas sink and not float.

Flea Trap – Do It Yourself Flea Trap

A common do it yourself trap is to fill a bowl with water, add some soap liquid and stir. Then find a desk lamp (preferably one that’s stable and not hanging or able to fall in the water) and point the lamp towards the water, but at a safe distance away. The fleas will then jump towards the light and fall into the bowl, drowning. Alternatively, you could buy a bag of floating tea lights and fill multiple bowls with water (add soap). Place the bowls in the areas of infestation, light the tea lights and let them float in the soapy water. Again, this should attract the fleas so they drown.

If you see the fleas successfully making it to the top of the water and out of the bowl,  you may not be using enough soap to trap them, so add some more. Ensure the water is monitored in both scenarios, as you will want to dispose of any dead fleas on a regular basis. Also ensure that no house pets will go near either structure to avoid them burning themselves, getting electrocuted or drinking the water.

Flea Trap – Commercial Flea Trap

A Commercial trap is a more advanced structure which still uses light and warmth to attract the fleas (via a lamp), but instead of soapy water, a layer of sticky material is at the base of the trap. When the fleas are enticed in, they stick to the base and can then be disposed of. The sticky bases are replaceable so when one gets full, it can be discarded and changed.
Flea Trap – Additional Flea Controls
A trap is usually used as an additional flea control to other flea remedies. If the source of your flea problem is your pet dog or cat, then also consider using sprays, powders, shampoos, wipes or collars in addition to the trap.
Flea Trap – Pet Health Insurance
As you are searching for Flea Trap perhaps the subject of Pet Health Insurance should be considered. Remember pet health insurance for treatment of health and medical problems caused by flea bites. The subject of Flea Trap might lead to unexpected visits to the vet and veterinary treatments for your dogs, cats, kittens, puppies and pet rabbits due to illnesses caused by bites from fleas. These can quickly mount up so get quotes for health and pet insurance coverage for treatment of illnesses, prescriptions and possible hospitalization treatment. Please remember that if you are in any doubt about the health of your pet, or problems associated with flea bites please consult your Veterinary Specialist immediately for professional treatment. Your vet will diagnose the problem and prescribe appropriate medication and treatment.
